This collection contains a variety of correspondence and ephemera relating to Elliot Baldwin Hunt, Sr., (1895-1959), and his wife, Evelyn Hodecker Hunt (1905-1986). Elliot Baldwin Hunt was born on June 3, 1895 to Preston J. Hunt and Nellie Purdy Hunt. During World War I he served as a Private in the United States Army at Camp Johnston, Florida, from July 14, 1918, to his discharge on January 7, 1919. Evelyn Hodecker was born to Frank and Rose Hodecker in Tarrytown on February 23, 1905. By 1920 she was residing with her uncle and aunt, Fred and Elizabeth Gross, in North Tarrytown (now Sleepy Hollow). Elliot Baldwin Hunt, Sr., and Evelyn Hodecker were married on October 19, 1927. Their first son, Elliot Baldwin Hunt, Jr., was born on November 28, 1928. Elliot Baldwin Hunt, Sr., died on October 10, 1959. Evelyn Hodecker Hunt died in May 1986. Some of the letters in the collection were written to Ernestine Hunt (1898-1988), younger sister of Elliot Baldwin Hunt, Sr., by Charles Howard Cotton (1891-1918) during his service in World War I. Cotton, who went by his middle name, enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in New York City on May 28, 1917. He held the rank of boatswain's rate first class, and served aboard the USS Mustang. Charles Howard Cotton died at Willard Parker Hospital in New York City on October 18, 1918.
